Daily Devotional for Sunday September 24, 2017

Romans 8:28 (NASB) And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.

I watched my youngest daughter go through two major events in one week. One joyous and the other painful. She passed her road test which means that she has the privilege of driving. That’s the joyful one. The very next day, she had her wisdom teeth surgically removed – obviously the painful part. As I rejoiced with her one day and showed her love and compassion the next, it struck me that no matter what we are going through, we must thank God and allow what we go through to strengthen us and our relationship to Him. It was easy to see what a blessing it was to pass her road test, but seeing the blessing in the pain from the removal of her wisdom teeth is not something we can see right away. For that we need time. Time to realize that her other teeth will have the room and space within her mouth to keep her perfect smile. We need to trust God with the painful things as we do with the joyful. What do you need to trust him with?

Personal Application: Continue spending time with the Lord daily. Sow righteousness and reap the fruit of God's unfailing love.

Family Devotional: Read this chapter to your family. Ask them if anything spoke to them as you read. Talk about their answers and show them that one important aspect of this chapter is that we must continue to spend time with the Lord and keep our hearts focused on His plans and purposes. Pray for them.
