Daily Devotional for Saturday September 23, 2017

Proverbs 3:34(NASB) Though He scoffs at the scoffers, Yet He gives grace to the afflicted.

One of my daughters played volleyball for a local college. She excelled at the sport from the minute she started. In fact, as a freshman, she made the NCAA Second Team. As a sophomore, she earned NCAA First Team. She shocked my world when she announced that she would not be returning to play this year. It was not that her desire to play was gone or that some injury sidelined her. No, she was standing up for principle and stepped aside to show that her coach was unprofessional in the treatment of the ladies on the team. At the end of spring ball, the entire team decided not to return, all for the same reason. As the fall season approached, the ladies went back but not my daughter. She said she needed to stand up for the principle –for her desire to see a change in how the ladies were being coached and treated. She wrote letters to the head of the athletic department and shared her feelings. She decided not to give up what she knew was right to play again this year. She truly showed her character as she was giving up so much to stand up for what was right. She gave up her year as a captain, possibly making the hall of fame. She gave up a sport she loved and showed her true character. As a father watching his daughter play, it made me proud, but when she decided not to play, it made me even prouder. As God looks down upon us as we live our lives, I wonder if He is proud of what we do or prouder when we stand up for what He has taught us.

Personal Application: Continue spending time with the Lord daily. Sow righteousness and reap the fruit of God's unfailing love.

Family Devotional: Read this chapter to your family. Ask them if anything spoke to them as you read. Talk about their answers and show them that one important aspect of this chapter is that we must continue to spend time with the Lord and keep our hearts focused on His plans and purposes. Pray for them.
