Philippians 2:4 – “Do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interest of others.” (NASB)
It was the day after, and I couldn't sit by. I knew I needed to go. A group of firefighters boarded a train to go to NYC and help the victims and our fellow brothers and sisters in the fire service. The dust was still heavy in the air, the smell of death was everywhere but we donned our gear and began to dig - looking for any signs of life, any hope of someone still alive after the towers had collapsed. Hearing all the news of the 15th anniversary brought back a flood of memories for me, but I know one thing, the work of helping out someone else is never done. Today's scripture shares about not merely looking out for our own personal interest but also for the interests of others. That kind of work is never done. Even while we go about our lives, our jobs, our time, we can always keep an eye out for someone in need of a little help. Even God sends us help along the way of life via the Holy Spirit. We just need to keep our eyes open for Him and let him show us others that need our help. Why not start today and help one other person. No excuses, no reason not to, just doing it to help.
