Daily Devotional for Friday September 15, 2017

2 Timothy 3:17 (NASB) so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.

I have a stack of books on my nightstand that I read before I fall asleep. Some of them were given to me by friends to read. Others I have picked up along the way. The topics vary. Some are someone’s view of what the Bible means to them; others are about some point that the authors have studied and meditated on and have taken the time to write what they believe. Some books are filled with prayers that the authors have written based upon the Scriptures. I share all this because it occurred to me that I had set my Bible aside to read this book or that book. I left my Bible sitting there only to go to another book. Not that the books I read were bad to read, but those books piled high replaced my time in His Word and I was missing what He wanted to share with me. What does God’s Word say to us in our time upon this earth? If we are not reading His Word daily, then we are missing what He would like to say to us. I can’t imagine going a day without talking to my wife. Why should it be any different with my God who loves me?

Personal Application: Continue spending time with the Lord daily. Sow righteousness and reap the fruit of God's unfailing love.

Family Devotional: Read this chapter to your family. Ask them if anything spoke to them as you read. Talk about their answers and show them that one important aspect of this chapter is that we must continue to spend time with the Lord and keep our hearts focused on His plans and purposes. Pray for them.
