Daily Devotional for Thursday September 07, 2017

Philippians 4:13 (NASB) I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.

Who hasn't wanted to give up? Who hasn’t thought of throwing in the towel or to walk away when the going gets rough? We each had our tools. Some guys had brooms, others had watering cans, and we were determined to put out the grass fire. It seemed the faster we worked, the faster the flames spread. Today's verse speaks of being able to do all things through Him who strengthens us. No, we did not begin to pray that the fire would die out, maybe we should have. It may have gone out faster, but we did find the strength to continue. We found strength in unity. In the Christian walk of faith, there will be times when we may feel as if we are at the end of our rope. There will be times when things aren't going the way we planned or hoped. Maybe we have grown weary, maybe we just feel like giving up. I wonder if we take today's verse and really begin to live it what would happen. Maybe the marriage that's on the rocks, or the job hunting that doesn't seem to be going well, maybe our finances are concerning, whatever it is, we can find the strength to go on by calling out to God. The key is whether we have that kind of relationship with Him. The one where we trust Him, believe in His Word, and allow the Holy Spirit to lead us and strengthen us. Maybe the hesitation in wanting to walk away is as simple as allowing God to reign in our daily walk, in our decisions, and in our ups and downs. Only then will the fire be put out.

Personal Application: Continue spending time with the Lord daily. Sow righteousness and reap the fruit of God's unfailing love.

Family Devotional: Read this chapter to your family. Ask them if anything spoke to them as you read. Talk about their answers and show them that one important aspect of this chapter is that we must continue to spend time with the Lord and keep our hearts focused on His plans and purposes. Pray for them.
