Romans 12:9 (NASB) Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor what is evil; cling to what is good.
Our true nature comes out when we are alone… when no one is watching. What will our reaction be to those in need? How do we treat our loved ones? What about our enemies? You probably get sick of hearing me say it, but it comes down to choice. What do we choose? Who do we choose to follow? Who do we choose to emulate? God’s Word is filled with inspiration of what and how to live, but we have a choice. Today’s verse hits how to be a man (of God, for God). We have the choice to read and accept it or to walk away. I was sitting with a group of men, sharing coffee, and God’s Word, when one of the men got up to go to the bathroom. Immediately, one of the other men began to share an embarrassing story about the man who left. As others began to laugh at his misfortune, I couldn’t help but think, “What do they say about me when I leave?” Calling the men out for being two faced, we discussed today’s verse. What does it mean to let love be without hypocrisy when it comes to being a godly man? Are we the same in front of someone as we are when their back is turned? If not, maybe we need to abhor what is evil and cling to what is good.
