John 10:27 – “My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.” (NASB)
My dog and I walk… We usually walk in the city, along the sidewalks with her on a leash. However, once in a while we take a trip to the country, and I allow her to walk without the leash. She loves to run into the fields and along the paths through the trees. Every once in a while she gets out of my sight. So I whistle. Before you know it, she comes barreling back to me – I pet her head and say, “Good dog,” and we are off again. She returns to me because she knows my call, my whistle, and comes back to follow me. Today’s verse speaks about us as sheep and hearing His voice. It states that He knows us, and if we truly know Him and His voice, we will follow. The problem comes when we have gone so far off path that we don’t hear His voice. He knows us, all about us, but do we truly know Him? We can return to the path He wants us on by getting to know His voice, and when He calls we can follow. Do we listen for His voice? We are never too far off the path that we can’t return when we hear His voice, but we have to be listening for it. Are we listening?
