Proverbs 24:16 – “For a righteous man falls seven times, and rises again, But the wicked stumble in time of calamity.” (NASB)
No one likes to admit their mistakes or failures but... after the big fires, we would sit around the kitchen table at the fire house and talk. We would share what went right, but we also talked about what went wrong - how we could have done this or that better. Funny thing was that we learned more from sharing our failures and mistakes than we did sharing what went right. Today's verse speaks of falling seven times and yet rising again, and how the wicked stumble in time of calamity. It is learning from our mistakes, getting back up that prepares us for the next time. There will be a next time, whether it's trying to balance a checkbook, admitting failure at work, or even making the apology to those we loves for decisions that have caused them pain sharing those moments will give us better insight as we rise to fight again. If you've failed or made mistakes, take the punishment, but get up and try again. Even Jesus fell going to the Cross, but He got up and finished what He started. We can too in His strength.
