Daily Devotional for Thursday October 19, 2017

Isaiah 59:2 (NASB) But your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God, And your sins have hidden His face from you so that He does not hear.

I can still recall his words to me, "I am disappointed in you!" I was caught in a lie about something that I shouldn't have done. When the truth was found out, my dad uttered those words to me. I felt bad enough about the lying and the act that I shouldn't have done, but those words… they echoed through the chambers of my heart. Today's verse speaks about our iniquities, our sin, and because of them God is separated from us and has hidden His face and doesn't hear us. The relationship with my dad wasn't ruined, but it definitely took a hit. Things seemed different for a while. Quieter and less than it used to be. Not until I came and sincerely apologized did things begin to get better. It's that way with God. He knows that we all sin and fall short, but He's waiting for us to repent, to apologize, and come clean. What do you need to repent of and apologize for?

• Personal Application: Continue spending time with the Lord daily. Sow righteousness and reap the fruit of God's unfailing love.

• Family Devotional: Read this chapter to your family. Ask them if anything spoke to them as you read. Talk about their answers and show them that one important aspect of this chapter is that we must continue to spend time with the Lord and keep our hearts focused on His plans and purposes. Pray for them.
