1 Timothy 4:7-8 – “But have nothing to do with worldly fables fit only for old women. On the other hand, discipline yourself for the purpose of godliness; for bodily discipline is only of little profit, but godliness is profitable for all things, since it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come.” (NASB)
“You really could!" Having a discussion with a few men, one of them commented that I could probably build a house all by myself noting that I had trained myself to do concrete, framing, electrical, plumbing, and a host of other things along my path in life. However, none of that compares to what I learn as I read God's word. Today's verse speaks about not having anything to do with worldly fables, but to be disciplined in godliness as it holds the promise for the present life and also for the life to come. I don't know about you, but I'd rather be building things up for His Kingdom than building up things for myself. Although I enjoyed working on building and the other trades, nothing compares to building for Him. Are we building for us or for Him? There is a world of difference in which house we are building up.
