Daily Devotional for Wednesday November 22, 2017

Amos 5:23 (NASB) Take away from Me the noise of your songs; I will not even listen to the sound of your harps.

Today’s Bible reading may seem a little harsh at first glance. Why would God say that He would not listen to our praise? I believe the answer is found earlier in the chapter where God says, “Seek Me that you may live.” (verse 5) If we live for any other purpose that Him, we are living to and end that is death. We are to put God first above all else. That means that we allow God to rule in our lives. God rules only if we acknowledge Him and His ways. We can lie to ourselves and others that God matters. If we continue to seek the pleasures of our own self, we lie to Him. He does not want to be second in our life. He desires to be our first in EVERYTHING. Will we make God first? Will we put ourselves into His hand to be used and molded as he sees fit? Seek Him that YOU may live!

Personal Application: Continue spending time with the Lord daily. Sow righteousness and reap the fruit of God's unfailing love.

Family Devotional: Read this chapter to your family. Ask them if anything spoke to them as you read. Talk about their answers and show them that one important aspect of this chapter is that we must continue to spend time with the Lord and keep our hearts focused on His plans and purposes. Pray for them.
