Philippians 3:13-14 – “Brethren, I do not regard myself as having laid hold of it yet; but one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.” (NASB)
It was amazing – but if I had stopped along the way, I would have missed it. While vacationing, we began to hike up the side of a mountain. The climb was difficult at times and slow moving. There were moments that we questioned whether we should keep going or stop and go back. We pushed on past exhaustion, past the wanting to stop, and reached the summit. The view was absolutely amazing! You could see for miles and miles. To be honest, there were moments when I didn’t want to take one more step. I wanted to throw in the towel and quit. Today’s verse is Paul speaking of not laying hold of it yet but forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead – the goal, the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. There are and will be times when we face an unbelievable walk in this life, as if each step is harder than the last. We must carry on for the cause of Christ because one day the view will be amazing. So hang in there and keep moving forward. Sure, it’s hard, but if it was easy, everyone would be doing it. The walk of Christ is not an easy walk, but so worth it when we reach the summit. Carry on my friends in His strength.
