Hebrews 12:2 “…fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” (NASB)
“Open your eyes.” Funny how I remember my grandfather telling me to open my eyes… I was learning how to hammer nails at the time. Every time I went to hit the nail, I closed my eyes. Obviously, I missed more than I hit! I have found myself saying the same thing to men as they have come alongside me to help at a construction site - must be a guy thing. Today’s verse tells us to keep our eyes fixed on Jesus. If we are ever going to “hit the nail on the head” when it comes to walking the walk, we need to keep our eyes open and fixed upon Jesus. There’s no joy when we don’t hit the mark, and yet the verse tells us that Jesus endured the cross. I don’t know about you, but when I take my eyes off the nail, I usually hit my finger and that hurts. I can’t imagine Jesus going to the cross for me and you. He never took His eyes off us. We shouldn’t take our eyes off Him.
