2 Corinthians 4:12 “So death works in us, but life in you.”
I couldn’t understand her smile. We responded to a first aid call where the mother of this family passed away. There was nothing we could do, and yet, I found it strange that one of the daughters there was smiling. I had to ask, “Why are you smiling?” She said, “Now they are together.” She went on to share that her mom loved her dad more than life itself. Her dad had passed away about a year earlier and now they were together again. Today’s verse states that death works in us, but life in you. Seems like a crazy verse, but it speaks to the death in all of us. Death to self, death to the things that cause us to sin, and the ultimate death we all face one day; like the daughter, we may be able to smile at death if we have the “life” in us. That life is Jesus Christ. Because of Him and His work at the Cross, we can face death with the knowledge of everlasting life. That should make us smile. That’s if we know Christ. So, do you? Do you know Christ as your Lord and Savior?
