Daily Devotional for Sunday May 06, 2018

Scripture:

Psalm 10:4-5 (NASB) The wicked, in the haughtiness of his countenance, does not seek Him. All his thoughts are, “There is no God.” His ways prosper at all times; Your judgments are on high, out of his sight; As for all his adversaries, he snorts at them.

Observation:

My dad and I would randomly meet early before work to cast a line into Niagara River simply to enjoy a moment before work. Well, one-day Dad hooked a musky. As he fought the fish, I could see its enormous size. It was one of the largest muskies I had ever seen. As the fish slowly began to tire out, my dad began to bring him to a place on the shore. All of a sudden, another man, who had been watching alongside us, grabbed his net and reached into the water hoping to net the fish. In one simple thrust, he hit the fish right where the lure was. In a split second, the fish was gone – a prize fish lost in one moment. I have to be honest, I thought to myself, “How could he do that! What was he thinking?” I was angry and wanted to lash out at the man. Snort something like, “What are you crazy?” But my dad gently reeled in his lure and said, “Thanks for trying to help.” I was amazed. Here I was ready to let loose with a verbal assault upon this man, but Dad just gently said, “It happens,” and casted his line again. I have learned over the years that fishing with my dad was more than just fishing. They are life lessons that I pray I teach my children as well. What lessons are you teaching?
