Psalm 4:7 “You have put gladness in my heart, More than when their grain and new wine abound.” (NASB)
His smile was contagious. Have you ever met someone that seems to be joyful no matter what? You know, that deep-down joy of the Lord that some people have that no matter what is going on or how bad the trials are, they are filled with an inner joy that just radiates off them. One night at the fire house, we got called to a bad call. The house had been burning without anyone noticing, and by the time we got there it was “fully involved.” As we worked the fire and slowly put it out, I noticed the family that lived in that house. They were on a neighbor’s porch watching their house, their home, burn up. Yet they seemed almost joyful. The grandmother was holding one granddaughter and the mother was holding another small child. Three others were at her feet. As I watched them, I saw them pray a few times and heard them praising God that they were all safe. It didn’t matter to them that they had lost most of the things they had because they had each other. They had joy during trouble. Could I have been that joyful in that situation? What about you?
