Proverbs 2:1-2,5 (NASB) “My son, if you will receive my words And treasure my commandments within you, Make your ear attentive to wisdom, Incline your heart to understanding; Then you will discern the fear of the Lord, And discover the knowledge of God.” (NASB)

"Don't come any closer!"... We responded to a suicide call. When we got there, a young man was standing on the bridge ready to jump. It would have been certain death, but I had the opportunity to speak to him. I asked a simple question, "What makes you want to jump?" He began to speak about his life; how he had no hope. His home life was a mess; his girlfriend had left him, and he had just lost his job. He didn't see any point in living. Today's verse speaks that if we receive His Word, and treasure His commands within us, and make our ear attentive to wisdom, and incline our heart to understanding, then you will discern the fear of the Lord. I said one more thing to him, "If you jump, you'll never know if things will get better, and what if they can?" He began to think, and then asked me, "How do you know things will get better?" I simply said, “Because I know Jesus!" That seemed to make the difference. He began to walk towards me and asked me to tell him more. The fear of the Lord is not an afraid kind of fear. It's the awesomeness of God that is spoken of. It was the awesomeness of God and the knowledge of Him that made the young man ask for more. Do we know the awesomeness of the Lord? Maybe we need to make our ears attentive to Him and discover the knowledge of God.
