Colossians 3:2 “Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth.” (NASB)

Measure twice, cut once. While helping my sister out with a home repair project, I had measured twice and... We were putting trim on two skylights in her home. Things were going well; I had installed all but the last piece of trim. I had measured twice and cut the last piece. The only problem was that I took my eye off the prize. We began to talk as I went to measure and cut the last piece needed. Today's scripture shares with us about setting our mind on things above, not on the things of the earth. I had lost my concentration and cut the last board about 5 inches short!! Of course, it was the last long piece of trim we had left. While driving back to the store, I thought about today's verse. How important it is, as we try and walk the Christian walk, to keep our mind on things above and on the things of God rather than the things of man. I should have kept my eyes on the skylight instead of engaging in something that took my mind off what I was trying to accomplish. It was an easy mistake but a good lesson to learn... again! Measure twice, cut once and concentrate! Not a bad way to read God's Word!
