One-Week Theme: BUSINESS PRACTICES Day 3 Proverbs 11:1 “A false balance is an abomination to the Lord, but a just weight is his delight.” (ESV)
As I stepped on the scale, I knew something was off. My dad has this habit of putting his foot on the scale behind me when we have weighed ourselves in our pursuit of keeping our weight at a healthy level, but this time, as the numbers began to climb, I knew he was up to his old trick again. Today’s verse continues our weekly study on business practices and shares that a false balance is an abomination to the Lord. Pretty strong words concerning the scales of business transactions. The verse refers to the weights used to measure the scales as people traded different items to offer sacrifices to the Lord. No one likes to have the weight scales climb at a false rate when measuring our body fat, so why would we want to have the scales of our business false. The second part of the verse refers to the Lord’s delight that the “just” weight is proper and true. Once my dad took his foot off the scale, I was delighted to see my weight return to the proper level. Our business practices should be the same for us and for those we do business with!
