Daily Devotional for Friday June 30, 2017

1 Peter 2:16 (NASB) Act as free men, and do not use your freedom as a covering for evil, but use it as bond slaves of God.

"Wow look at him run!" We had acquired a dog when I was just a young boy. We named him Toby. He was living in an abusive home; we were more than willing, or at least my parents were, to take him and make him our dog. I really didn't know what freedom meant until we took him to the park one day. After removing his leash and letting him go free, he began to run around like I had never seen before. He always came back, looked at us almost as if he was asking permission, and then take off again. For the first time in his life, he was allowed to be free. Today's verse speaks of acting as free men - not using that freedom as a covering for evil, but in the service of our God. Because of Christ and the cross, we are free to live. However, we must never use that freedom for sin. That's not why He went to the cross. He went so we could live free in love. In the movie "Braveheart", William Wallace asks his countrymen a simple question. "What will you do with this freedom?" I ask you today, Men of God, what will you do with this freedom in Christ? Something to think about as we celebrate the freedom of our country.
