Daily Devotional for Wednesday June 21, 2017

Colossians 3:9-10 (NASB) Do not lie to one another, since you laid aside the old self with its evil practices, and have put on the new self who is being renewed to a true knowledge according to the image of the One who created him

We could have just painted over them and made them look new. She called and asked my advice about a wall they had stripped wallpaper from. She wasn't sure what her next step should be. Some advised her to just cover the wall with paint, but the minute I looked at it, I knew that there was more work to be done than just painting it. Today's verse speaks of not lying to one another, since we have laid aside our old self and put on the new self of true knowledge according to the image of God. The paint would have made the wall look somewhat new, but the reality was that the scrape marks from taking off the wallpaper would have shown through. I could have lied and said, "Sure, paint it." The truth was that the wall needed to repaired before the paint would make it look new again. In life, we will have choices - to either lie or tell the truth; I read somewhere that "the truth will set you free." I don't know about you, but I would much rather be free in the truth than chained to a lie. Think about it. What has you chained up rather than living free?
