Daily Devotional for Friday June 16, 2017

John 3:16 (NASB) “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.

It's one of those memories I'll cherish forever. Blessed to be working in the same fire department as my dad, we had the occasion to work a night shift together on the same crew. He was the lieutenant, and I a member of his crew for the night. The call came as a maternity call. Usually, you have time, but not this night. When we arrived the mother was in full labor and the birth was moments away. That's when my dad and I delivered a baby together. Today's verse speaks of another Father and the birth of another Child... it speaks of the greatest love there is - the love of God our Father giving the world His Son so that none shall perish but have eternal life. My dad and I have talked about that night many times. Remembering how we got to witness a blessing together - father and son, working side-by-side, and being blessed. I thank God for that opportunity. How often on Father's Day do we honor our Father in Heaven? Amidst the celebrations of fatherhood, take a moment and honor Him, and thank God, our Father, for the greatest gift of love this world has ever known... His Son!
