Romans 15:7 (ESV) “Therefore welcome one another as Christ has welcomed you, for the glory of God.”
Being the new kid can be difficult. When I was a kid and our family moved to our new home, I wasn’t sure what to expect from the kids in the new neighborhood. I was accustomed to the way things were back “home,” and I wondered how I would be accepted in a new neighborhood. Kids can be tough on each other. Today’s verse speaks of welcoming one another. Whether it’s a new job, a new location, or a new church, life for a new comer can be a little uneasy. There are many questions, concerns, and sometimes fear. But if we welcome the “new guy” as Christ has welcomed us (even adopted us, according to Paul’s writings), things can and will be easier. Some men hate walking into a strange new group. Lots of guys will just stay away to avoid awkwardness. But if we make an effort to welcome the new guy, the end result is usually an win-win for everyone. Remember that YOU were the new guy at one point. But now you have a responsibility to be welcoming and inclusive.
