Romans 15:4 – “For whatever was written in earlier times was written for our instruction, so that through perseverance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.” (NASB)
She wasn't here, and yet she was. While going through some old paperwork, I came across an old letter my mom had sent me years before. While struggling with another Christmas without her, I pulled out the letter and reread what she had written many years ago. How she encouraged me with her words and scripture. I had received the letter when I was in a rather lonely place in life. She told me to hold on to the hope of Christ, and He would see things through. Today's verse shares that what was written in earlier times was written for our instruction; so that we might have hope. God's word, written so long ago, holds hope for each of us who read it today. It is filled with instruction, but we must persevere through the struggles of life and hold on to the hope written in the pages of God's word. So if you find yourself a little down or maybe last year wasn't what you thought it would be, hang on to the hope of Christ written down for our instruction. Thanks, Mom, for the encouragement; say hello to Jesus!!
