Daily Devotional for Sunday December 30, 2018

Genesis 2:18 – “Then the Lord God said, ‘It is not good for the man to be alone; I will make him a helper suitable for him.’” (NASB).

"Yup, it's him again!" Every year about this time, the number of first aid calls goes up in the local fire department. Many times, the call is for the same address. While working on the job, we had to respond to the same address for about the fifth time. Each time we got there, there wasn't an emergency. However, what we found was a man looking for someone to talk to. He was all alone in life, and with the holidays here, he just wanted someone to talk to for a while. Today's scripture is most often used when referring to God making Adam a partner, but we can see that it could mean that it is not good for man to be alone and God will make a helper. That helper could be us. I am sure each of us know at least one person who is all alone. They could use a helper, even if it's just to listen. Grab a plate of cookies and give one of the best gifts you can give this year - your time! A simple act of kindness can go so far in making that lonely person feel loved and isn't that what it's all about - feeling the love of God? What are you waiting for? Turn off your electronic devices and go share life with that person. You know who it is, and they could be waiting just for you!!!
