John 13:35 (NASB) By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.
In order for there to be new life, things must die. Nature is the best example of this. As the cold of winter drives us in doors, we can still look out windows at the nature around us. If we look to the trees, they have all the signs of being dead, but deep within them is new life waiting to grow. In order for us to become “new” creatures in Christ, putting off our old self, we must die to self. The thoughts of injustice towards others must die in order for us to live in Him and love all mankind. It is easy to say that we love all men, but when the rubber meets the road do we? If a person of a different race, social status, or look came to our door and asked to come in for a while because of the cold would we invite them in? Would we also offer our warmer coat? The reading for today says they will know us by our love. Can people point us out in a crowd and say that’s one of them; a follower of Christ, those who love… do they?
