1 John 3:17 (NASB) But whoever has the world’s goods, and sees his brother in need and closes his heart against him, how does the love of God abide in him?
It never happens intentionally. We find ourselves busy with our own schedules and "to do" lists that it keeps us from really seeing the need. They are out there! People like you and me. The only difference is they need a little help. We can find the excuses of why we don't, but I wonder if we could ever be intentional about today's scripture and take it to heart about not helping when we have what they may need. The ending question of today's verse should cause us to take a moment and ask ourselves, “Does the love of God really abide in us?” If so, we should act - a kind word, an open ear, a cup of water in His Name. Those little things can make a difference in a person's life. It will show the love of God. Maybe we will have an opportunity to live God's love by seeing someone in need and lending a hand - a hand of love.
Personal Application: Continue spending time with the Lord daily. Sow righteousness and reap the fruit of God's unfailing love.
