Daily Devotional for Thursday February 15, 2018

Jeremiah 29:11 (NASB) For I know the plans that I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope.

While climbing around near my work bench, I happened to see it. I sat there for a moment... Getting something for one of my daughters, I came across my firefighter turnout gear. The smell of fire and smoke still lingered on it. I thought about the men and women who I worked with, braved the infernos with, ready to lay down my life with. I remembered the time my dad and I delivered a baby and the many people I helped on first aid calls. To be honest, I felt disappointed that my career was cut short. I knew if I sat there long enough and kept thinking the way I was that the disappointment would overwhelm me. So, I turned away and happened to glance down at the work bench. There sat one of my Bibles, and I said, “Thank you, God.” He gave me the reminder that without leaving the fire department, I would not have met the many friends and godly men along this journey. This journey of a future and of hope. Don’t sit too long in disappointment. Come to realize that God has plans for you that you cannot fathom.
