Ecclesiastes 6:7 – “All a man’s labor is for his mouth and yet the appetite is not satisfied.” (NASB)

I remember playing soccer for our varsity team in high school. The week of sweat and hard work that would lead to a victory at the game. During the practice, it almost seemed like the day would never end: wind sprints, running up and down the field, kicking drills, heading the ball drills, formation drills. They went on and on, but in order to get it right for the big game, we needed to practice, practice, practice. When the game was finally over for that week and we had won, I can remember thinking, “Is this all there is?” The verse for today speaks that our labor is for our mouth and yet our appetite is not satisfied. The victory in sports is short lived. Ask any championship team as they begin the next year… they have to do it all again. In our walk with Christ, following His Lead, the victory is won not only for today but for all of eternity. Now that’s a winning team.
