John 15:4 – “Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself unless it abides in the vine, so neither can you unless you abide in Me.” (NASB)
While working on a house project, we needed to use a piece of lumber called an LVL (Laminated Veneered Lumber). It is a series of thin boards glued together under pressure which allows the builder to extend to great spans under tremendous weight. I couldn't think how those thin pieces of wood, held together by glue, could withstand such pressure and weight; when they are pressed together with the glue, it becomes a very strong thing. Today's verse speaks of abiding in Jesus, and He abiding in us... a branch cannot bear fruit of itself unless it abides in the vine. I began to think about the LVL, and how a group of people bound together by the glue of Christ can be a tremendous thing. As we spend time with family over this season, I wonder if we could think about the glue that should be holding us together - Jesus Christ. Not the tree or the presents, but a small child born so that we may know the love of our God. The glue of Christ can strengthen any situation we face. Even those tough times when family can't see eye to eye, maybe we can be LVLs this season: Living Via Love.
