Daily Devotional for Wednesday December 19, 2018

Matthew 25:2-4 – “Five of them were foolish, and five were prudent. For when the foolish took their lamps, they took no oil with them, but the prudent took oil in flasks along with their lamps.” (NASB)

As I walked back to the garage, I began to hum to the old Jackson Browne song "Running on Empty." I was half way through a neighbor’s driveway with my snow blower when the engine died. I had not prepared myself properly for taking the snow blower out. I forgot to check the gas level and ran out of gas. Today's verse speaks of five virgins who were not prepared for their bridegroom - it is in reference to being ready for the Son of God when He comes. Like the snow blower and the virgins from today's verse, we need to be prepared for the coming of Christ. As we enter this season of the celebration of His birth, are we prepared? Have we spent time in prayer, opening our hearts, opening our Bibles, or will we get half way in to it and run out of gas? Are we prepared for His coming? He is coming! Let's make sure our gas tanks are full.
