John 1:1 – “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” (NASB)
It was orientation for my very first 9-5 job. I remember the man sitting behind the desk and handing me this book. It was called the Employee Handbook. He said to read it thoroughly and make sure to know every word in it. If I had any questions I was encouraged to come to his office and ask. I remember opening the book and paging through all of the details of the job. There were instruction on how to do this, how not to do that; what was important and what was not. I remember thinking as I began to read it that there was a lot to learn about this job and how to be a good employee. Today's verse speaks about the Word of God. I can't help but think that once we accept Christ as our Lord and Savior, it's time to read the employee handbook aka The Bible. How we should spend time in the Word of God learning every word; what to do and what not to do, how to act, how to treat other people, and most of all, how our God loves us. It seems to me that if we are going to call ourselves followers of Christ, we should learn all we can about Him. Are we spending time reading the employee handbook God has written for us?
