Daily Devotional for Saturday August 19, 2017

1 Corinthians 6:19-20 (NASB) 19 Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own? 20 For you have been bought with a price: therefore, glorify God in your body.

We so often forget that we were created by God for His purpose –for His Will—to have fellowship with Him and bring Him glory by our lives. He did not create robots to do this, He gave us a choice. He wants us to choose to love Him unconditionally and that means not fulfilling the desires of our bodies, but having a desire to honor Him by the way we live. When I look back at some of the decisions I made in my life, I am ashamed of them. After being reborn in Christ, I now have a desire to honor Him in the decisions of my mind and my body. I was taught, when I was little, that my body was the temple of the Lord. Many times, I have desecrated it by the choices I made. If we say we have Christ in us, we need to realize that these bodies are His, and our choice should be Him in all things. We need to start living godly lives for Him and as witnesses to those who seek Him.

Personal Application: Continue spending time with the Lord daily. Sow righteousness and reap the fruit of God's unfailing love.

Family Devotional: Read this chapter to your family. Ask them if anything spoke to them as you read. Talk about their answers and show them that one important aspect of this chapter is that we must continue to spend time with the Lord and keep our hearts focused on His plans and purposes. Pray for them.
