Daily Devotional for Tuesday August 15, 2017

Luke 24:49 (NASB) And behold, I am sending forth the promise of My Father upon you; but you are to stay in the city until you are clothed with power from on high.

I could have used my own strength, but I had more power available. While working on my wife's car, doing some minor repair, I grabbed the ratchet. I thought to myself, “Why use the manual type, when I was blessed with a pneumatic tool?” Today's verse speaks of what Jesus told His disciples before leaving the earth. they were to stay in the city until they were clothed with the power from on high… the Holy Spirit power. The job on the car went much faster and easier when I used the air tools. The power of the air tools saved me from using my own strength, and I couldn't help but think of today's verse. Jesus could have sent His disciples out into the world on their own, but instead, He told them to wait for the power from on high. I wonder, if we were to use that power instead of our own, where would the world be today? I'm guessing that most of us are afraid of that power. When I first tried air tools, I wasn't quite sure what to expect. After using them for a while, I became accustomed to it. Maybe if we used the Holy Spirit power more often, we would see more signs, wonders, and miracles.

Personal Application: Continue spending time with the Lord daily. Sow righteousness and reap the fruit of God's unfailing love.

Family Devotional: Read this chapter to your family. Ask them if anything spoke to them as you read. Talk about their answers and show them that one important aspect of this chapter is that we must continue to spend time with the Lord and keep our hearts focused on His plans and purposes. Pray for them.
