Daily Devotional for Wednesday August 09, 2017

1 John 3:18 (NASB) Little children, let us not love with word or with tongue, but in deed and truth.

“Daddy I love you!” I would shout those words on the days my dad would take me fishing or to an amusement park, but rarely did I utter those words when I was about to be disciplined for a behavior that missed the mark. My love was only words unless I acted them out with my behavior. Today’s verse speaks of children not only loving in word or with our tongue, but in our deeds and truth. Whether we want to admit it or not, we are children of God. If we say we love Him with only words and not actions, then we are sadly missing the point of living for Christ. The key is that God loves us no matter what, but don’t we have a responsibility to love Him by our actions? I remember my father’s face when he came home from work, and he could see that I loved him by how my actions showed that love. Image God’s smile when He sees us acting out His Love by our obedience to His Word.

Personal Application: Continue spending time with the Lord daily. Sow righteousness and reap the fruit of God's unfailing love.

Family Devotional: Read this chapter to your family. Ask them if anything spoke to them as you read. Talk about their answers and show them that one important aspect of this chapter is that we must continue to spend time with the Lord and keep our hearts focused on His plans and purposes. Pray for them.
