Daily Devotional for Friday August 04, 2017

Matthew 24:44 (NASB) For this reason you also must be ready; for the Son of Man is coming at an hour when you do not think He will.

When the alarm rang, it wasn't the time to get prepared. At the fire house, when the fire call came in, we needed to respond. It was not the time to prepare, that time came before the alarm ever went off.  Your gear needed to be ready, your tools all set and in place, your breathing pack all set,  prior to sound of the alarm. Today's verse shares that we must also be ready for when the Son of Man returns; we need to be ready and prepared. There is a part of fighting fires that most people don't think about, but firefighters do. It's being ready. Each time the alarm goes off, it could be the last call we respond to. That means when we left home for work, it might be the last time we saw our family, our friends, all the people that we care about. It also means that we may meet our Maker face-to-face. You don't have to be a firefighter. Anyone of us could experience our last day on this earth. Are we ready? Have we prepared our lives to meet Jesus face-to-face. Have we prepared in such a way that we can face death at any moment? The end of the verse states that He may come at an hour when we do not think He will. Are you ready? Do you know Jesus as your Lord and Savior?

Personal Application: Continue spending time with the Lord daily. Sow righteousness and reap the fruit of God's unfailing love.
Family Devotional: Read this chapter to your family. Ask them if anything spoke to them as you read. Talk about their answers and show them that one important aspect of this chapter is that we must continue to spend time with the Lord and keep our hearts focused on His plans and purposes. Pray for them.
