Acts 2:42 “They were continually devoting themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.” (NASB)
The Bible verse for today is one of my favorites. It speaks directly to the “church” about how the early church acted. You see, today we cry out that our churches are failing and people are leaving, and no one seems to care about the church. Yet we find ourselves often asking, “What’s wrong with our churches?” WE are the church. We should be asking what are WE doing wrong or not doing right that is causing each other to leave or to be misguided about what church is. The verse for today speaks of the “church” being devoted, not wishy washy, not when I feel like it, and not when I benefit from it. Not only when it feels good but devoted! The early church met daily; yet we have a hard time going once a week let alone make a Sunday night service or a Bible study during the week. We cry, “Why are churches closing!?” We need to take a good look in the mirror.
