Daily Devotional for Tuesday April 16, 2019

Luke 23:34 “But Jesus was saying, ‘Father, forgive them; for they do not know what they are doing.’ And they cast lots, dividing up His garments among themselves.” (NASB)

He was beaten beyond recognition...We arrived on scene and immediately began to minister first aid to the man. He had been beaten severely, and as we investigated further, we found out that he had stepped in to save a woman who was being harassed by a group of men. They had turned their anger on him for stepping in. Today's verse speaks of Christ's words from the Cross. He was asking God the Father to forgive those who had crucified Him. As the police arrived on scene and began to question the beaten man asking him who his attackers were, he stated that he didn't want to press charges against them. The police pleaded with him to tell them who it was that beat him, but each time his reply was the same, "No, I will not tell you." The beaten man showed unbelievable love for those who had hurt him. It reminded me of today's verse. How in the midst of all the pain and agony Jesus forgave. He not only forgave those who hung Him on the tree, but forgave us for the sin we have done and will do. In sharing the love of our Heavenly Father, may you experience the love that He shared on the Cross, and may we learn to forgive as we are forgiven.
