Staying Fresh for Life

If you are like most everyone else on planet Earth, you don't like stale food. (There's a reason the "Hot Doughnuts Now" sign is a national craze!) We enjoy and prefer things that are fresh. In much the same way, God enjoys people who are "fresh," Christians who still have the joy of the Lord and a passion to know him more, no matter what age they are. These are the ones who represent him best because they demonstrate the fresh life he is inside of them.

Motion pictures were originally created as a way to amuse people and help them escape their own realities for a while. For about two hours, movies launch us into a fantasy world of excitement, intrigue, romance, and adventure. For 120 minutes or so, our lives transcend the normal and, at times, mundane. Unfortunately for some, when "The End" rolls across the screen they are forced back into their "real world," a life that's anything but thrilling and adventurous. For these folks, the problems, pressures and routines of living day to day eventually turn them sour and "stale" before their time.

This should not be the case for us as Christians. When we look at the life of some movie star, our first thought shouldn't be to envy them. If they don't have Christ at the center of their soul, then they don't really have life at all. They're just existing, grabbing some pleasure and purpose here and there as best they can. If anything, they should envy us. We have the Creator of the Universe and the Overcomer of death, hell, and the grave living inside us. Life should be bursting out of a believer. In fact, Jesus said, "I am come that they might have life and have it more abundantly" (John 10:10 KJV).
