Daily Devotional for June 22, 2016
Ephesians 6:4 – Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord (NASB).
When Carolyn and I were pregnant with our first child, we went to a parenting class. We learned many things but one thing stuck out for me. It was in regards to the safety of our child in our home. They told us to go home and crawl around like a child and see things from their point of view. Amazingly, we did just that and found many things that we needed to take care of before our child was old enough to crawl around our home. I wonder if we could use that same logic today – to look at things from their point of view. For instance, how and what we are teaching them about being a child of God. What lessons are we instructing them to be the examples God is calling them to be? On the other side of the coin, what lessons did our parents teach us that we may have forgotten along the way in being the people God has called us to be? Maybe we need to get down on our hands and knees and see things from that point of view. By the way, the foot of the Cross is a great place to start - on our knees.
- Personal Application: Continue spending time with the Lord daily. Sow righteousness and reap the fruit of God's unfailing love.
- Family Devotional: Read this chapter to your family. Ask them if anything spoke to them as you read. Talk about their answers and show them that one important aspect of this chapter is that we must continue to spend time with the Lord and keep our hearts focused on His plans and purposes. Pray for them.
