Daily Devotional for Saturday September 30, 2017

Scripture:

Proverbs 12:18 (NASB) There is one who speaks rashly like the thrusts of a sword, But the tongue of the wise brings healing.

Observation:

I am always amazed at how people understand me when I have my foot in my mouth. Many times, we say things that just come out wrong and are not intended to hurt. Then there are the times when we intend to hurt with what we say. That’s really painful. I am sure we all have felt that pain and have been on the wrong side of jeering and ridicule. So, we know the pain involved. Yet, we so often are ready and willing to use the gift of speech as a weapon of destruction. Taming the tongue can take years if it is done at all. More importantly is the mind set behind the tongue. If it’s not for Christ, then we will continue to inflict pain on each other. If we set our minds on Him, we can begin to heal and start sharing the love that was shared with us. Like today’s verse shares, “The tongue of the wise brings healing.”  Are we healing with our words or bringing pain?

Application:

Personal Application: Continue spending time with the Lord daily. Sow righteousness and reap the fruit of God's unfailing love.

Family Devotional: Read this chapter to your family. Ask them if anything spoke to them as you read. Talk about their answers and show them that one important aspect of this chapter is that we must continue to spend time with the Lord and keep our hearts focused on His plans and purposes. Pray for them.
