Daily Devotional for Thursday November 30, 2017

Scripture:

Hebrews 13:7 (NASB) Remember those who led you, who spoke the word of God to you; and considering the result of their conduct, imitate their faith.

Observation:

I had the opportunity to coach little league basketball. Everyone knows that you need a captain for any team. In making my decision, I recalled the words of my former soccer coach. My coach was a godly man who talked about how players were on the field, but he also spoke of how they were off the field. Both had a part to play in choosing a captain for our team. Today's verse speaks of remembering those who led you, who spoke God's Word to you and consider their conduct and imitate their faith. My former coach spoke of Jesus and how we, as young boys, would be blessed to follow Jesus' lead. As the time came to pick a captain for our little league team, I remembered the words of my coach... "on and off the field of play!" I witnessed a young man who came to practice early, stayed late, and played his heart out whether it was a practice or a scrimmage; however, what made me name him as captain was what I saw off the court. He was courteous, kind, helpful to the younger boys on the team, and respectful of his parents and me as his coach. What words of wisdom do you remember from those who led you?

Application:

Personal Application: Continue spending time with the Lord daily. Sow righteousness and reap the fruit of God's unfailing love.

Family Devotional: Read this chapter to your family. Ask them if anything spoke to them as you read. Talk about their answers and show them that one important aspect of this chapter is that we must continue to spend time with the Lord and keep our hearts focused on His plans and purposes. Pray for them.
