Daily Devotional for Thursday June 29, 2017

Scripture:

2 Timothy 2:5 (NASB) Also if anyone competes as an athlete, he does not win the prize unless he competes according to the rules.

Observation:

We were about half way through the job when one of the guys decided to quit. Sure, the job was filthy, disgusting, and no one in their right mind would want to do it; however, we had signed on for the whole job and were not getting paid until it was done. Today's verse speaks of an athlete and not winning the prize unless he competes according to the rules. We had signed on for the whole job, not half. So, it didn't seem right that we should walk off the job with only half of it done and expect to get paid. Those of us who remained finished the job and got what we had agreed upon. Sometimes in life, we may find ourselves stuck in the middle of completing the task set before us. Sure, we can just walk away, but that's not what was agreed upon. Life will get dirty and stinky at times, but if we follow the rules and stay on task like an athlete competing, we will see the prize at the end. What end is it you may ask... to stand before our King and hear those words, "Well done, my good and faithful servant!" Nothing compares to that prize. Let's hang in there guys and complete the task He has called us to do.
