Daily Devotional for Friday June 02, 2017

Scripture:

2 Timothy 1:6 (NASB) For this reason I remind you to kindle afresh the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands.

Observation:

Put a little kindling on it, and it will come back to life. While camping, we had a roaring fire the night before, but as we awoke in the morning, the fire had almost gone out. One of the guys began to put some rather large pieces of wood on the fire pit, but nothing happened. It wasn't until one of the guys told us to put some kindling on first. Today's verse speaks of reminding us to kindle afresh the gift of God which is in us by the laying on of hands. Putting the large wood on the fire did nothing to rekindle the fire. We had to put the small kindling on first in order for the fire to reignite. So it is sometimes with the things of God. Over time, they may have burned so low that it's time to rekindle them. Trying to do large jobs when we are either worn out or exhausted will not accomplish the task. We need to start small, letting the fire of God within us begin to build to where we can become Light to the world again. Don't give up on the fire, start small, fan the flames, and before you know it, there will be a warmth within us like never before. Become the Light of Christ again, use your gifts and talents, and watch the fire grow!

Application:

Personal Application: Continue spending time with the Lord daily. Sow righteousness and reap the fruit of God's unfailing love.

Family Devotional: Read this chapter to your family. Ask them if anything spoke to them as you read. Talk about their answers and show them that one important aspect of this chapter is that we must continue to spend time with the Lord and keep our hearts focused on His plans and purposes. Pray for them.
