Daily Devotional for Saturday July 22, 2017

Scripture:

2 Timothy 2:7(NASB) Consider what I say, for the Lord will give you understanding in everything.

Observation:

It was a part-time job that I had during high school; you know the ones where you just seem to get to put a little jingle in your pocket. It was for a construction company, and my job was the “gopher.” I was to “go here and get that,” but along the way I always kept my eyes open for opportunities to learn new things. I watched as the carpenters built a wall and asked, “Why did you nail it this way or that way?” When the plumber began to put the water and sewer lines in, I again asked questions of why this way or that way. I remember finishing my lunch early so I could walk around the project looking at the different things. If I found something I did not understand, I asked questions. Years later, I ran into the man who owned the company. He asked how I was and what I was doing. I told him that I worked my way up to second carpenter in building homes and had my own handyman business. The lessons I learned on that first job had helped me get to where I was. He said, “Thank God you had your listening ears on back then!” He was right. If I had not listened to the advice I learned, I wouldn’t have achieved all that I had. What advice are we learning today that helps us walk like Jesus?
