Daily Devotional for Sunday January 07, 2018

Scripture:

John 6:63 (NASB) It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing; the words that I have spoken to you are spirit and are life.

Observation:

We knew it had to be done, but we were exhausted. After working our second large fire of the night, another call came in—a house fire. Arriving second on the scene, our crew needed to pull the 2 1/2" hose down to the hydrant to pump water to the first arriving pumper. Our arms were tired, our bodies to the point of breaking, but deep within each member was the spirit to continue. Today's verse speaks that it is the Spirit who gives life, and the Word of God is spirit and life. There will be times when life has us exhausted. Our fleshly bodies will want to give in or give up, but if we hold tight to the Spirit of God, we will find the strength to fight against the temptations of manhood. We can overcome by the Spirit's help, His guidance and direction. So, if you find yourself on the brink, wondering how to go on, take a moment and feel the presence of God within you and carry on! Don't forget that the breath we breathe is the very breath of God. If not for His breath, we would just be piles of dirt.

Application:

Personal Application: Continue spending time with the Lord daily. Sow righteousness and reap the fruit of God's unfailing love.

Family Devotional: Read this chapter to your family. Ask them if anything spoke to them as you read. Talk about their answers and show them that one important aspect of this chapter is that we must continue to spend time with the Lord and keep our hearts focused on His plans and purposes. Pray for them.
