Daily Devotional for Friday January 05, 2018

Scripture:

John 8:12 (NASB) Then Jesus again spoke to them, saying, “I am the Light of the world; he who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life.”

Observation:

The waves were crashing over the bow, the rain pelted us, and the darkness of night became very real. If it wasn't for the light at the end of the dock, we wouldn't have made it back to shore safely. Today's verse speaks the words of Jesus—that He is the Light of the world and those who follow Him will not walk in darkness. To be honest, I was scared. The thought of trying to get the boat out of the water, get us back to shore safely seemed almost an impossibility. As we rounded the corner out of the bay, I could see the light shining brightly through the storm. All I needed to do was focus on the light and head towards it. In life, we will face storms. It will seem like there is nowhere to turn, but there in the darkness, no matter what we face, will be the Light of Christ. We just need to focus on Him and head towards Him with all the strength we have left. He will bring us to safety. The comfort of the light from the dock brought a sense of security. So will the Light of the World. So, let's head in His direction and the darkness of the storm will slowly disappear.

Application:

Personal Application: Continue spending time with the Lord daily. Sow righteousness and reap the fruit of God's unfailing love.

Family Devotional: Read this chapter to your family. Ask them if anything spoke to them as you read. Talk about their answers and show them that one important aspect of this chapter is that we must continue to spend time with the Lord and keep our hearts focused on His plans and purposes. Pray for them.
