Daily Devotional for Wednesday August 30, 2017

Scripture:

Proverbs 15:4 (NASB) A soothing tongue is a tree of life, But perversion in it crushes the spirit.

Observation:

Communicating and speaking to each other has taken on a form that seems to be getting worse by the day. Disrespect and verbal assaults seem to be the way to speak to each other. Trash talking on the sports field, students disrespecting teachers, children speaking back to their parents, where will it end? Most of you know that I had a serious anger problem that resulted in a verbal assault against some innocent person (usually my wife). Sad. As I look back, I see the damage that I did. I see how my words cut her down. I would apologize for my actions, and then want her to believe me when I told her I loved her. The damage had been done. I praise God for the lesson He taught me. How it was unacceptable behavior and that my words need to be more like His words. Our words speak the truth with love, share love, and be uplifting. Isn’t there enough sadness and pain in the world without us adding to it by selfish attacks by our words? Take a moment before you speak today and ask one question, “Will this hurt or help?”

Application:

• Personal Application: Continue spending time with the Lord daily. Sow righteousness and reap the fruit of God's unfailing love.

• Family Devotional: Read this chapter to your family. Ask them if anything spoke to them as you read. Talk about their answers and show them that one important aspect of this chapter is that we must continue to spend time with the Lord and keep our hearts focused on His plans and purposes. Pray for them.
