Daily Devotional for Thursday August 24, 2017

Scripture:

Proverbs 11:1 (NASB) A false balance is an abomination to the Lord, But a just weight is His delight.

Observation:

As we raised the bucket, the alarms started ringing. While trimming the top of a few trees for a customer, we had to use a bucket truck to reach the height we needed. The only problem was when we raised the bucket, the truck alarms would ring letting us know we were off balance. Today's scripture refers to having a false balance. That's why a weight is His delight. Having the right balance in life makes all the difference. As we tried to get the bucket higher, the alarms rang and then the machine shut down. Built in safety features to ensure that we would not be injured. Maybe we need those in our own life.  We need alarms to go off when we are off balance. Too much of one thing is not good unless of course it is God's Word and His Spirit (we can never have enough of those!). Before we go on with our life, maybe we should check and see if we are off balance when it comes to the things of God. Even the things of life... too much work verses not enough family time, too much time in front of the television verses not enough time in God's Word, too much alone time verses not enough time in fellowship with other godly men. A false balance can lead us into trouble. Are your alarms going off? Maybe it's time we make some changes to balance the scales of life.

Application:

Personal Application: Continue spending time with the Lord daily. Sow righteousness and reap the fruit of God's unfailing love.

Family Devotional: Read this chapter to your family. Ask them if anything spoke to them as you read. Talk about their answers and show them that one important aspect of this chapter is that we must continue to spend time with the Lord and keep our hearts focused on His plans and purposes. Pray for them.
