Daily Devotional for Tuesday August 22, 2017

Scripture:

Romans 12:2 (NASB) And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.

Observation:

What seems normal to others is just the opposite for us. When you think about running into a burning building, there is something inside you that says, "You're going the wrong way!" When I was hired as a fire fighter, that's exactly what we were trained to do. We run in while everyone else is running out! Today's verse is one of my favorites. Maybe that's why I use it so much. It says to be different than the world… to be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you can prove what the will of God is: good, acceptable, and perfect! God will ask you to do the unnatural when it comes to His will. The world will think you’re crazy when you run into a burning building, pray for someone in the middle of the grocery store, or invite a lonely neighbor to dinner at your house. Just imagine if everyone did the unnatural. They would become the natural, and then not doing these things would be unnatural. Think about it. Ask yourself today, “What is God asking me to do today that is unnatural,” then DO IT! It might change someone's life... maybe even yours!

Application:

Personal Application: Continue spending time with the Lord daily. Sow righteousness and reap the fruit of God's unfailing love.

Family Devotional: Read this chapter to your family. Ask them if anything spoke to them as you read. Talk about their answers and show them that one important aspect of this chapter is that we must continue to spend time with the Lord and keep our hearts focused on His plans and purposes. Pray for them.
